I haven't actually done any of this, but I have done some research with a
view to installation, funding willing!  ;-)

My understanding is that DDS (aka Fastway) lets you go up to 2Mb, and all
you need in terms of hardware (other than what terminating equipment Telstra
provide) is a router with a synchronous port.

Compare this with ISDN, where your maximum bandwidth is 256k for BRI, and
that requires a more expensive router.  Beyond that you need PRI (primary
rate), which requires much more expensive routers + PRI cards (probably
somewhere in the order of $15-$20k for hardware).

On the other hand, I believe that installation and ongoing charges for
Fastway are marginally (?!) higher, although this may have changed since
I looked at it last year.
