Bought my first Linux Cd-rom (redhat 4.1), and as some of you said in your last reply, this version is truly user friendly, and I was able to install it in about 20 mins, unlike the slackware which is in the bin. Anyways, thanks for all of you who advise me to get this version. Unfortunately, it doesnt end here, as I am having difficulties trying to configure my Linux to dial out to my isp. I tried 3 versions of the "howto's" that came with the disk and also a Linux unleashed here in front of me but I still cant get it working. I tried to use minicom to dial out then use CTRL-A Q to quit the modem without re-setting then at the root prompt I typed "pppd /dev/cua1", the modem is still connected to the other side so it seems, but when I tried to ping the IP addr of my server it came back with no packets transmitted. I've changed the configuration files so many times, even tried to configure it using Xwindow (configuration networking menu) but to no avail. Can anybody tell me if they had the same problem when they tried to install Linux for the first time ever. Can someone also tell me where I can get more info in details starting from scratch how to get this ppp connection working, preferrably from a beginners point of view with instructions on which files to modify.
