Subject: RE: [Oz-ISP] Shipping boxen across the pond?
No followups recorded.

NZ Post Sea Freight - last time I used this (going back 3 years ago),
cost NZ$80 to get a standard tower case PC in a padded box home. Took a
bit longer, but price definitely made it worthwhile.

TNT are money hungry anyway - considering it cost me $110 to send a
desktop PC, Monitor, Printer, Scanner and desk to Kishinau, Moldova (In
the former USSR) via Australia Post recently, and $65 extra for
insurance, I'd hate to think what TNT would charge...

Subject: [Oz-ISP] Shipping boxen across the pond?

Howdy Folks,

Here's an interesting one.. We sent one of our fellows over to NZ
earlier in the year to setup a test box at a client's site.  The box
went over in his luggage so didn't cost us anything to ship..  Now it's
a few months later, the trial is completed, and the client is hinting
that it'd make a beaut quake server, so we're ready to ship the box home

However  we find that TNT want $1200 to ship the box back across the
pond! - while it only actually weighs in at 8kg or so, it's in a large
foam-padded box which would weigh 96kg if it was a solid steel block
(which is apprently how they decide how to charge for shipping
internationally)..  Now we dont' want to spend $1200 to ship a PIII-600
back here, but we would like to get the box back home if possible, so
I'm wondering if anyone has a cheaper method of getting machines from NZ
to Aus?

Any ideas muchly appreciated :)

Cheers,

DG
