We periodically ship 1U servers internationally by courier. Assuming a 1U 19" wide server, this should cost only a bit over $150 from Aus east coast to NZ including ample padding (our usual shipping dimensions are something like 65 x 54 x 14 cm with a weight of about 12 kg). Alternatively Aus Post charges for 8 kg package to NZ is around $52 by Economy Air; presumably the cost is fairly similar to send the thing back in the other direction via NZ Post.
