It sounds like a central splitter or central filter.

I'm confused by your description of a "filter that goes between the
socket and the DSL modem."  I never heard of one of those.  All the
filters that I ever heard about go between the unfiltered line and a
handset, either between the socket and the handset, or, in the case of a
central filter, directly on the line, with the modem before the filter
and handset sockets after it.
