You can use Mini DSLAMS, (like 8-48 ports), to do this. Depending on distance and speed required. VDSL is used if you need to go over the same line as the POTS (like adsl and use a splitter). SHDSL is another option is distance is an issue. See http://www.emtec.com.au/product.php?id=166 for what im talking about. You must also consider the uplink to be used. Long reach ethernet is perfect solution in this kind of a scenario. LRE 2924 XL Swtiches, VDSL Splitter, BBSM ( for accouting ; it's a cisco product) LRE 575 or 578 CPEs. Very good and reliable solution. Each CPE can get a maximum bandwidth of 20Meg. Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: m a j o r d o m o - o w n e r @ k o a l a . a u s s i e . n e t [m a i l t o : m a j o r d o m o - o w n e r @ k o a l a . a u s s i e . n e t On Behalf Of Howard Lowndes Sent: Tuesday, 10 January 2006 12:32 PM To: SLUG Mail List; LINK Mail List; Oz-ISP Mail List Subject: [Oz-ISP] Cat 3 compliance I have a client with a large motel complex that wants to run bb to the rooms. All of the rooms have standard telephone cable, but he cannot justify the cost of a full Cat 5 cabling job. Wifi is out as well as the internal walls are brick and he has tried and has got nowhere with that idea. Is Austel telephone cable Cat 3 compliant? At least with Cat 3 we can run his network at 10Mbps even if we can't get 100Mbps. I don't think it is Cat 3 compliant though. Any other ideas? -- Howard.
