That's because most people don't understand how spam, or phishing,
or email virus social interaction, or email in general, works.

They have two kinds of emails: good emails, and spam. Even if they're
being asked to login to the Northern Pole Banks website to check
their account details, or asked to "check out this cool screen saver
LOL!", that's spam for them.

While the first one is phishing, the second one is a virus and the
one not mentioned is the good old spam. All of them are forged
emails.

And they will not understand it until their email address is being
used as a forged-email-from address and they receive the bounces,
and will forget it the next day.

Forged email addresses. Most of us (not here us, but in the online
world us) call it spam. Us (here us) nitpickers call it forged
email.
