ComputerBank is new to Queensland and has only had a presence here for about 8 months. ComputerBank is an organisation of volunteers seeking to help the community. ComputerBank takes donations of second hand computer hardware from private companies, government organisations and individuals and transforms it into useful systems for people without access to this technology. The presentation will outline a pilot project to be run by ComputerBank Queensland (CBQ) starting second half of 2001. The pilot project aims to establish a computing facility within a community centre and to provide addition PCs to individuals for home use. All project participants will receive training in the use of their systems. The computer systems will be powered by the Linux operating system. The presentation will also discuss possible future projects, and longer term goals for CBQ. Presented by Tony Joblin Time and Place -------------- The presentation will take place at 6:00pm on the 12 May 2001 meeting in Room S201, Hawken Engineering Building, The University of Queensland. --- Raymond Smith Secretary of HUMBUG 2000/2001 m a i l t o : s e c r e t a r y @ h u m b u g . o r g . a u Home Unix Machine - Brisbane User Group http://www.humbug.org.au/ - * This moderated list (announce) is handled by m a j o r d o m o @ l i s t s . h u m b u g . o r g . a u * Subscribe/unsubscribe requests should be sent to there in the message body. |
